Dear Cultural Connections,
This is an update on your loan to Miraluna Sario in Philippines. This
journal has a video! Check out
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ix_E7RLbkbo
In the attached short video, Miraluna narrates how her life has improved
and continues to improve with the help of NWTF-Project Dungganon, and
now her Kiva lenders.
She explains how her life was before NWTF-Project Dungganon - she did
not own a house and she did not have sufficient income. But through her
efforts and with the help of NWTF-PD, she was able to start a
sustainable business which she slowly expanded - from just a "sari-sari"
or general store to selling the fish catch of the day of her motorized
fishing boat. She also shares that nothing is wasted as she dries the
fish that she cannot sell so that it won't spoil - mostly the "Danggit"
fish which is a very popular breakfast food in the islands. She says
that she regularly sends stocks of dried fish to other towns and even to
Bacolod to her regular customers.
Life has not been always up for Miraluna and her family. Through her
efforts she was able to build a house, but it recently burned down, so
she had to start from scratch again. Miraluna is now slowly buying and
setting aside wood and other building materials with the profits from
her business so that she could rebuild her house in the near future.
Miraluna is shown in the video with a few of the fish catch that she had
not yet sold to her regular customers when the NWTF-PD loan officer
visited her.
